Antioxidants Research
There has been a lot antioxidants research performed in the past few years. The medical and scientific communities are taking notice of antioxidants and finding out more about how they work and which foods contain them. Antioxidants fight free radicals, which are implicated in a variety of diseases including heart disease and cancer just to name a few. Free radicals are unfortunately a natural part of life, but with proper lifestyle choices and good nutrition you can prevent and heal cellular damage to a certain extent.
Free radicals are reactive molecules that attack healthy cells. The healthy cells mutate and may cause the above mentioned diseases and conditions as well as various others. Luckily antioxidants bind to free radicals which renders them harmless. Antioxidants also help repair damaged cells. There are hundreds of different antioxidants that work in various ways to benefit your health. Many experts believe that antioxidants can help prevent cancer, heart disease and arthritis. In addition, antioxidants can help the health of your skin.
The problem with antioxidants and your skin is that only a small fraction of consumed antioxidants reach your skin cells. Therefore you may need some skin care products that contain antioxidants for topical application. When it comes to the inside of your body, the key is to eat lots of produce. Aim for five to nine servings of fruit and vegetables every day. Numerous studies have shown that diets high in produce can help reduce your risk of a wide variety of illnesses and diseases. Even if you don't like produce that much, there are easy ways to get your fill.
Try making smoothies and juices with fresh fruits and vegetables. Some people who don't like eating their veggies have no trouble drinking them. Although there are prepared juices on the market it is even better to make your own fresh juices. You may be wondering about supplements. Antioxidants research has shown that the best way to get your nutrients is from whole foods as there may be other beneficial components in the foods that are not found in supplements. However if your diet isn't perfect most doctors will tell you there is no harm in a daily multivitamin to fill in the nutrition gaps. To learn more about antioxidants speak to a registered dietician or consult your physician.
